The news from Bamako
Work is going well in Bamako. Amadou has been in touch to say that we are well on our way to rebuilding the workshop after it collapsed in the rains. We’ve been able to fund this thanks to money collected by Pete Coe at this summer’s music festivals.
There 32 kids now using the centre, eating there and learning music. We have also started growing food on a small plot of land to keep costs down and to teach new skills. Ultimately we’d liek to be able to afford a piece of land outside the city to use as a farm during the growing season.
For now we are concentrating on getting enough money together to buy a piece of city land for the workshop itself. This will allow us to stop paying rent and to build a proper permanent structure. We’re aiming for £1,500 to get this done. Any ideas, offers or sponsorship greatfully recieved…!
There are plans underway to raise some money so check back soon to find out more.
Best wishes,
Ben
