Vicious cycle…to Bamako
I pedalled off one Saturday morning heading for the seaside. Along the way I saw some sites – from City skyscrapers to shuttered shops. And there was snow and ice, sun and wind. I managed to crash and to break the chain, to hitch a lift to a bike shop and to get stuck on a massive A road rolling with trucks.
Somehow I rode through Gatwick. By the then the bike only had one gear and liked to hiccup. Hills seemed a lot bigger than they were but I ate chocolate and kept pedalling. I enjoyed it, all seven hours and 70 miles. Being stuck in the top gear even gave me an excuse to walk up the massive hill that rolled off the sea outside Brighton.
By the time I got to the seaside everyone else was in the pub, which seemed like a good place to be. So that’s where I headed!
A massive thank you to everyone who helped me raise over £1,600 for the African Workshop. It kept me going and makes me really proud to know some amazing people.
There was a story about us in the Brighton Argus, for which I thank the mighty Snappy Sam.
Next week we’re off to Mali….and then it’s back for the next step and some more money making. Anyone fancy a party?!
Love Ben
